A few days before Thanksgiving, 11-year-old La’Prentis Doughty, Jr. ran into a burning apartment building to save his 2-year-old sister’s life put at risk because of an electrical fire burning out of control.  La’Prentis suffered minor burns and he saved his sister, who was unharmed.

The Caucus of African American Leaders – Maryland’s Eastern Shore will celebrate La’Prentis’ heroism and devotion to his little sister.  La’Prentis is a positive example of a selfless youth who put his sister’s life before his own.  These are the qualities that youth should immolate in our community and that the Caucus of African American Leaders – Maryland’s Eastern Shore will celebrate at this Local Hero Award Ceremony on December 14, 2022, at 6 PM at the Charles Chipman Cultural Center in Salisbury, Maryland.
