Wicomico County NAACP is a civil rights organization focused on achieving equity, political rights, and social inclusion that accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color.
Join us for an inspiring evening at the Wicomico County Freedom Fund Awards Gala on December 2, 2023, in Salisbury, Maryland. Hear words of inspiration from Realtor and Motivational Speaker, Alishia Potter, Teacher of the year, Aaron Deal and Community Activist, Byron Coulbourne. This prestigious event celebrates the remarkable achievements of individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to the enrichment and upliftment of communities of color on the Eastern Shore.
During this elegant evening, we will honor outstanding members of the Wicomico community who have dedicated themselves to creating positive change and fostering an environment of inclusivity and progress. Honorees include: Sherman Wood, Mark Thompson, Sheila Richardson, Kelsie Maddox, Foster Grandparents Organization, Wicomico Truth and Reconciliation, Fenix Youth Project, Distinguished Gentleman (Wicomico Middle School), Gentlemen of Distinction (James M. Bennett High School Special note a lifetime achievement award will be bestowed upon Mrs. Mary Ashanti.
The gala will also feature an array of captivating performances from local artists. Guests will be treated to the soulful melodies of Eastern Shore’s finest musical talents, the profound and thought-provoking words of spoken word artists, and the visual splendor of fine art paintings created by local painters. These performances are not just entertainment; they are a celebration of the rich cultural tapestry that makes our community unique. Join us in honoring those who lead the way and in celebrating the beauty and diversity of our community.
