2022-2023 Wicomico Teacher of the Year to Be Named April 6; Nominations Welcome Now for Friend of Education Award

WCPS

Wicomico County Public Schools looks forward to celebrating teachers and a Friend of Education at the 2022 Wicomico Teacher of the Year Spring Celebration on Wednesday, April 6 at Kylan Barn in Delmar.

Twenty-five semifinalists for Wicomico Teacher of the Year were announced at a Kickoff Celebration on Dec. 2. Since that time, the semifinalists have been tested on public speaking at the Fishbowl event, have completed written prompts for scoring, and have been interviewed by a blue-ribbon panel of judges who are all past Wicomico teachers of the year. The four teachers with the highest total scores from these Teacher of the Year Program activities will be announced as the finalists on April 6, with the top-scoring finalist will be named as the new Teacher of the Year.

Also on the program for that night is the naming of the 2022 Rising Star Award winner, an outstanding second-year teacher. This teacher will receive $1,000 and other prizes from the McCain Foundation, which each year honors and supports excellent teachers who are early in their careers.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2022 Friend of Education Award, which will be presented that night. To submit a nomination, please email comments@wcboe.org with the name of the person or organization, and provide a brief description of what makes the nominee stand out as a Friend of Education. Deadline for nominations is March 8.

Wicomico County Public Schools is thankful for the outstanding support it receives from the community, and is glad to be able to celebrate at least one supporter each year with the Friend of Education Award. Past Friends of Education are listed below.
