SALISBURY, MD – Salisbury University has been selected as a 2021 Progress, Accomplishment, Thriving, Hope (PATH) Scholarship recipient through the Ellucian Foundation.

The PATH Scholarship program provides grants to higher education institutions to support students facing economic hardship.

SU received $25,000 — a $15,000 PATH Scholarship plus a $10,000 match from the SU Foundation, Inc. — which will help 40 students in need cover items such as housing costs, tuition expenses and food. In some cases, those hardships have been caused by ongoing struggles related to the COVID-19 pandemic, making the award even more timely.

“The PATH Scholarship supports students experiencing significant hardship who are at risk of leaving school after having exhausted every other type of aid available,” said Amy Luppens, SU director of development. “These funds ensure they are able to continue their education.

“The number of applications we received shows how needed scholarships like this are. We are very thankful to the Ellucian Foundation and other donors who establish general scholarships like this to support students facing hardship.”

“The feedback was phenomenal from last year’s inaugural PATH Scholarship, and we are pleased to expand the program to have a greater impact in the U.S. and around the world,” said Laura Ipsen, president and CEO of Ellucian. “Students across the globe continue to face ongoing disruptions due to COVID and other factors, and we at Ellucian are committed to doing our part.

“For too many students, even small financial difficulties can critically alter their journey and keep them from reaching their educational goals. Working with our partner institutions, these funds will have a positive impact on the lives of students and enable them to continue on their learning journey.”

The PATH Scholarship was established in 2020 by Ellucian, a leading technology solutions provider for higher education. In its first year, the scholarships provided 25 eligible higher education institutions with $500,000 in grants, delivering awards to 680 students.
