3rd Friday Announces 2018 Season Themes

3f2018THEMES

3rd Friday is pleased to announce its line-up for the 2018 outdoor season! Downtown Salisbury’s monthly art and entertainment street fair uses themes April through November to keep things exciting, spur creativity and to develop community partnerships. Some themes – like Comic Con & Paw Prints – are fan favorites, and occur every year; while other themes come and go. This year 3rd Friday will also experiment with a slightly new event footprint- with more room for activities!
3rd Friday kicks off the 2018 outdoor season on April 20th with “Think Spring” – complete with everything from baby animals and spring flowers, to sustainability projects and local environmental groups. May 18th will have a “Weird Science” theme, so get ready for slime, wacky experiments, and local science groups! June 15th is fan favorite “Paw Prints”, so grab the leashes and bring Fido & Mittens out for a night of art and socialization in Downtown Salisbury! In July, 3rd Friday is bringing back the “Water World” theme from years past – for a chance to cool off and have fun in the height of the summer season. August 17th is “Wheels” month, with a focus on community initiatives surrounding wheeled forms of transportation and recreation – like bicycles, skateboards, roller-skates and more!
In September, 3rd Friday will again celebrate with a “Time Warp” theme – this time to mark the momentous 250th anniversary of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, one of the area’s oldest and most historic churches. Just this past year, the theme coincided with the celebration of Wicomico County’s 150th anniversary – this year St. Peter’s has that beat by an entire century! On Oct 19th, its Salisbury’s favorite theme of all – Comic Con- complete with free comics, a costume contest, real life comic book creators and more. The outdoor season will wrap up on November 16th with a “Holiday Lights” theme that will include the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on Government Office Building lawn, as well as, a last chance to shop from the 3rd Friday vendors for everyone on your list. 3rd Fridays continue December through March, just without vendors, and the local shops’, restaurants’ and galleries’ events are advertised.
This year 3rd Friday will experiment with a slightly new event footprint that extends down past the bottom of the Plaza, and around the corner, to include the street surface in front of Acorn Market and Angello’s Unique Gifts. The new footprint will allow for more room for vendors, food trucks, and activities – however, it will mean additional road closures during 3rd Fridays. As in years past, the top of the Plaza will close to through traffic at 3 p.m., to allow for artists set-up, and the N. Division block will again close at 4 p.m. This year, the intersection of W. Main Street and Mill Street and the intersection of W. Market Street and Camden Street will also close at 3 p.m. to enable artists and vendors to set up on that short portion of the street in front of Acorn Market. Parking Lot 15 and Parking Lot One will still be accessible for parking by vendors and event attendees.
