SALISBURY, MD – August 20, 2021 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury. 3rd Friday will be held outdoors with artists and crafters filling the streets, live music, and special events. This month’s theme is Water World – so you can stay cool – with wacky water misters, bubbles and water themed activities.
Water World wouldn’t be complete without getting wet! Check out the 3rd Friday Splash Zone on E. Main Street with mister tents, and wacky water toys just down the street from the complimentary bike valet. On N. Division Street, there will be live music from local rock band The Queen’s Bishop with a perfect balance of musical genres just like your favorite variety station. Plus be sure to check out The Mane Event, in front of The Brick Room, where local long-haired women will be auctioning off sections of their hair to make wigs for those with medical hair loss in honor of the memory of Ashley Gilkerson. The Mane Event will donate locks lovingly chopped by Edit Hair Salon stylists to Hair We Share, and all proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Ashley’s preferred charity.
For more water themed adventures, check out SBY Movies on the River at the Riverwalk Amphitheater after 3rd Friday. This month’s movie is Disney’s Moana, where an adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. SBY Movies on the River is free to attend with showtime starting at 8:30 p.m.
On the Plaza, artists and crafters line the streets with handmade wares. Blackwater Apothecary invites the community to participate in an interactive art installation in conjunction with Wicomico Goes Purple; titled “Letters to the Lost: Letters to the Living”. Community members are invited to stop by Blackwater Apothecary to participate, located on the second floor of City Center Building.
Salisbury Art Space will host the opening reception for its 2021 Members Exhibition. This annual show shines a spotlight on the talents for Salisbury Art Space’s ‘most valuable players’: its members! The show has been sponsored by The Whaley Family Foundation and judged by Salisbury University Fine Art Professor Jinchul Kim. Winners will be announced during the opening reception to be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on 3rd Friday. Additionally, the work of Jinchul Kim will be on display in the Foyer Gallery, and the work of U.M.E.S Sequential Arts Professors Elvin Hernandez and Bradley Hudson will be on display in the Robinson Gallery. Salisbury Art Space is located on the lowest level of the Salisbury University Building.
3rd Friday will no longer require facemasks for outdoor activities, but please remember masks could still be required inside. The 3rd Friday’s virtual event on Facebook will continue to share event and community highlights for those who choose to continue to social distance. 3rd Friday is a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, in partnership with The City of Salisbury.
