Salisbury, MD – October 21, 2021 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury with artists and crafters lining the streets, live music outside and loads of special events. This month’s theme is Super Heroes – so get ready for comics, cosplay and real-life super heroes. There’s always lots to do at 3rd Friday from art shows to live entertainment – so head Downtown for a night out!
3rd Friday gets super with a pre-Halloween opportunity for cosplay sponsored by 3rd Friday and Ocean City Comic Con. Anyone dressed up in a costume can spin the prize for a chance to win free comics and cool prizes. No costume, no problem – compete in feats of super strength for a chance to win. Kids can enjoy Halloween crafts and pumpkin painting with the City of Salisbury Housing and Community Development Department and meet real life heroes from Salisbury Police Department and Salisbury Fire Department.
AMP Studios will be making sure things rock this 3rd Friday, with four bands of this years ‘rock heroes’ to come out of the AMP Studios program – KickStart, Basement Stairs, Plaza East and the Major Minors. At 6 p.m., check out the Feet of Fire Dance Academy’s annual Halloween Dance performance, as they take over the street with their amazing talent and spooktacular costumes. SBY Movies on the River closes out the season with a super special Halloween Double Feature with The Addams Family 2 (PG) at 7:00 p.m. followed by Ghostbusters: Afterlife (PG-13) at 8:45; both free to attend just bring your own blanket and popcorn.
Blackwater Apothecary is hosting a Witch’s Market featuring local witchy wonderful vendors. Kaiju Records is celebrating “Rocktober” with 10% off all metal, punk and hardrock records. Lilac Clothing Company is ready for 3rd Friday with 20% off all purchases of $50 or more, so it’s the perfect time to get those fall favorites you’ve been eyeballing. The Brick Room is celebrating with Happy Hour from 4 – 8 p.m., Brew River is hosting live music with Uprizing Band, and check out Live Lunch @ Noon with Skribe hosted by Delmarva Public Media at Revival.
Salisbury Art Space presents “Comic Art” an all-new exhibition exploring the world of epic villains, heroes and fantasy characters through fine art submissions submitted by local artists and Salisbury Art Space members, judged by comic artist Bryan Tillman and sponsored by the Whaley Family Foundation. “Comic Art” highlights pop art, design and comic illustration, and includes solo exhibition highlights from Brad Hudson and Elvin Hernandez, and a foyer gallery exhibition from judge Bryan Tillman. Salisbury Art Space will host an opening reception, awards ceremony and kids crafts during 3rd Friday.
Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campus will be exhibiting “DUSTY FUNK: Black Tundra” featuring the work of comics creator David Brame, a proudly black, afrofuturist scholar whose comic work explores issues of race and identity. “DUSTY FUNK: Black Tundra” is a series of mixed media Art Experiences based on an evolving set of dynamic illustrations that comprise this Psychedelic Afro Future Space Opera and will be on display now through the end of October.
The Downtown Trolley will be running this 3rd Friday on a continuous loop from Salisbury University to Downtown to make sure it’s easy for students, faculty and staff to make it for all the festivities. Trolley service will begin at 4:45 PM in front of SU Academic Commons and will drop of on Camden Street by the SU Downtown Building and will loop between the two locations until 8:15 PM, completely free to ride.
3rd Friday is a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, in cooperation with The City of Salisbury. There is no charge for artists to participate, but advance registration is required. For More Information: 3rdFridaySby.com
