Salisbury, MD: 3rd Friday is pleased to announce another night of socially-distanced shopping Downtown Salisbury on Friday, October 16, 2020. Check out all the action on N. Division Street and the Plaza, complete with live music and local art vendors. This month’s theme is Super Heroes – a fan favorite month that focuses on comics, cosplay and real-life heroes close to home.

This month’s theme of Super Heroes wouldn’t be complete without costumes. Facemasks are required during the event, but costumes are greatly rewarded – just stop by the Ocean City Comic Con booth, next to PLB Comics, for some free prizes and giveaways to everyone in costume. Can’t make it out? Community members can participate by sending in photography, cosplay or art inspired by super heroes to be shared online in the virtual event.

On N. Division Street, you can enjoy live music by the Matthew Bennett Davey Band. Salisbury Fire Department will be out in full force for Fire Prevention Month, with cool equipment and real-life local heroes that can tell you all about being a firefighter. Heroes come in lots of shapes and sizes; check out the Beyond Your Walls shower trailer that is restoring hope and dignity for those in need within our community.

Salisbury Art Space will feature the work United Way’s Lower Shore Addiction Awareness Art Competition, created by area middle school and high school students tackling the heroic subject matter surrounding opioid and other addictions, with an emphasis on recovery. Salisbury Art Space will also have work on display from the U.M.E.S. Art Department Faculty, complete with sculptures, paintings, and comic book art. Salisbury Art Space is located on the lowest level of the SU Building, and will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The lobby of One Plaza East will have the “Nature and Beyond” Exhibit by local artist Petra Bernstein on display. The lobby can be accessed by the doors between Mogan’s Oyster House, and Angello’s Scoops, and features Petra’s works inspired by nature and captured along the Wicomico River. On view is a selection of water reflections, flower and plant close ups, multi layered images, along with traditional photography.

Stop by the 3rd Friday table to pick up walking tour brochures – with three different versions available, a Downtown Salisbury Historic Walking Tour, a Historic Newtown Walking Tour, and a Public Art Walking Tour, all fun of interesting info. Facemasks are required in the event area during event hours. 3rd Friday is a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, in partnership with The City of Salisbury.
