Salisbury, MD — The Salisbury Police Department welcomed four new members on Friday, June 9th, 2023. The new recruits include Officers Joshua Eskrikdge, Nikyia Wooten, Elijah Howard, and Kristopher Garrison. Each officer will officially begin serving Salisbury residents sometime in June.

These four new recruits joined the department as recent graduates of Wor-Wic’s Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy (ESCJA). ESCJA is the primary site for entry-level training of more than 60 agencies on the Eastern Shore and includes courses such as Active Threat Integrated Response, Radar Speed Measurement, and First Line Supervisor’s Training.

“This new wave of recruits makes us excited for the future of policing in Salisbury. These officers exemplify the respect, dedication, and integrity that we want protecting our city,” said Acting Police Chief David Meienschein. “We encourage more young adults to apply to the SPD, giving the younger demographic a stronger voice in policing.”

Officer Eskrikdege is a Salisbury native who first joined the SPD in 2014 as a dispatcher after graduating from James M Bennett HIgh School where he played lacrosse. Officer Garrison is originally from Delaware and after graduating from Sussex Tech, he became an active member of the DE National Guard and even earned a Physical Fitness award from ESCJA. Officer Howard is a transplant from Arizona following in a family legacy of law enforcement in addition to also being awarded a physical fitness award while at the academy. Florida native Officer Wooten graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where she ran cross country.

“As a new generation takes up the mantle of protecting our residents, we encourage that responsibility be approached by citizens from all walks of life. We are a diverse city, and we want our law enforcement to represent that”, said Mayor Jack Heath. “Good luck to our new recruits, and we are excited to have you as part of the Salisbury Police Department”.

The SPD is looking for more recruits who are excited about a chance to serve and protect their community. The department is dedicated to providing the highest level of safety for the City of Salisbury and all of its residents.
