May 6 begins National Nurses Week in the United States, and Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) kicked it off early on Wednesday morning by honoring one of its own.

Jean Bulkeley is celebrating 55 years with PRMC this year and was presented the Daisy Lifetime Achievement Award by Dr. Sarah Arnett, Chief Nursing Officer at PRMC, for her career contributions to the nursing profession.

Jean graduated from the PGH School of Nursing and has held a variety of bedside nursing and nursing leadership positions throughout her remarkable 55-year career. She currently works as one of the Administrative Nursing Supervisors for Patient Care Services.

Co-workers say that she leads by example and treats everyone with respect. Jean personifies commitment, dedication and honesty, and is known for having one of the sharpest minds around. She is quick to apply what she has learned over her 55 years to a variety of challenging positions, all the while making patients and staff aware of what is really happening.

Jean is active in the community, and her expertise coordinating nurses for PRMC’s annual Drive-Thru Flu Clinic is what makes that event run as smoothly as it does.

Peninsula Regional is eternally grateful that Jean has spent her entire career in Salisbury mentoring staff and caring for patients.
