A total of $89,006 will be disbursed among 21 nonprofit programs in the Lower Shore region by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES). The programs funded include a broad range of community needs including youth projects, the arts, therapeutic services, conservation and more.
The awards are made possible through the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore’s Community Needs Grants program. The program award grants twice a year to local nonprofits.
“Responding to the diverse needs in our community is a key strength of the Community Foundation,” noted Erica Joseph, CFES president. “Our local nonprofit partners tackle a variety of issues in our region and we are proud to enhance their efforts.”
Grants were awarded to the following nonprofit programs:
• American Red Cross Delmarva Chapter Greater Chesapeake Region – to purchase smoke alarms and door hangers for individual homes in the Tri-county region.
• Art League of Ocean City – to support “Free Family Art Days” at the OC Center for the Arts.
• Athletes Serving Athletes – to purchase equipment for athletes of all abilities to train and race in competitive sports events.
• Atlantic General Hospital – to purchase scientific equipment for the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner program.
• Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation – to provide educational materials to medical professionals and the community.
• Deer’s Head Hospital – to install wall murals to engage dementia patients.
• Fenix Youth Project – to support the Minds in Motion youth leadership program.
• Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay – to support an outreach program for girls in elementary school attending the UMES afterschool program.
• Junior Achievement – to support classroom projects across the Tri-county region.
• Maryland Out of School Time Network – to providing training and resources to out-of-school time STEM educators.
• Mid-Shore Pro Bono – to support a satellite office in Salisbury that will offer legal services to low-income residents of Wicomico County.
• Moveable Feast – to support a home delivered meal program for Eastern Shore residents with chronic diseases.
• Nanticoke Watershed Alliance – to support facilitation and planning for a strategic plan.
• New Dimensions Ministries – to support a newly established afterschool program in Wicomico County.
• Salisbury Police Department – to purchase a child fingerprint machine to be used at community events.
• Lower Shore Childcare Resource Center – to support a STEM pilot project in the Tri-county region.
• Shirley Grace Pregnancy Center – to support the Young Moms of the Lower Shore Program at Pocomoke High School.
• St. James AME Zion Church – to support an afterschool program in partnership with Pemberton Elementary.
• Wicomico County Health Department – to support the second annual Maryland State Crisis Intervention Conference.
• Wicomico County Sherriff’s Office – to purchase technology that will be used during search and rescue events.
• Worcester County Government – to support the Community Emergency Response Training Program in Worcester County.
The semi-annual Community Needs Grant (CNG) Program benefits organizations serving the Lower Shore of Maryland with a $5,000 maximum award per nonprofit. Applicants must be 501c3 nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations providing non-sectarian programs, or eligible programs within government agencies serving citizens on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland. The next deadline for CNG grant applications is February 1st. All prospective applicants must attend one pre-application workshop prior to application submission.
