The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce held its 8th Annual Career Day for Wicomico County 9th grade students on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Salisbury University.
During the event, students from Parkside, Wicomico, Mardela, and Bennett High Schools and The Salisbury School attended 4 different career presentations that they had previously selected.
There were over 38 career fields represented that the 9th grade students have chosen from. Fifty-two area professionals volunteered to speak to students about their career paths. Students recieved an insight of that field, education and training needed, requirements, daily duties and more.
“Career Day has been such an instrumental event for 9th graders in the county,” Sophia Smecker, Director of Media & Public Relations said. “Students get first-hand insight from business professionals and suggestions on what they can start doing and planning for now to become successful in the future.”
Students will now participate in an essay contest on “What do you want to be after you graduate high school?” The essays are judged by a panel of Young Professional Committee members and first, second and third prizes are awarded to students at each school.
Career Day is a joint effort between the SACC Young Professionals and the Wicomico County Board of Education.
