United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore is pleased to announce that Pohanka Automotive Group raised a record-breaking $39,380 for United Way through their annual campaign this year. This generous contribution will directly impact Lower Shore residents in the areas of Education, Financial Stability and Health.
Pohanka’s Vice President and Dealer Operator, Sandy Fitzgerald-Angello, and United Way campaign coordinator, Katherine Hairsine led the effort which included employee giving, a corporate match program and a corporate event sponsorship.
Pohanka initially partnered with United Way in 2000, and has since been expanding their service on the Lower Eastern Shore through the ‘Pohanka Pays it Forward Program’. In 2009, despite the recession devastating the automotive industry, Sandy Fitzgerald-Angello started the program to help nonprofits in a time of desperate need. The program has now donated over $1,000,000 to 750 charitable organizations in our community.
Fitzgerald-Angello states, “It is our pleasure to give back to our local community that we have served for so many years. We feel it is our corporate responsibility to support our neighbors in need all year long. United Way has the reputation for responsible stewardship of our contributions, and we look forward to continuing this long and successful relationship.”
Kathleen Mommé of the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore shared, “We are inspired by this year’s record-setting employee contributions and we could not be more excited about the future of this partnership. Pohanka sets the bar high not only in their industry, but for all community-minded businesses on the Eastern Shore.”
