The Wicomico County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host its 17th Annual African-American Celebration at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1st at the Chipman Cultural Center, 325 Broad Street, Salisbury, MD.
Kathryn Barrett-Gaines, Ph.D., is the keynote speaker, addressing the theme: “Standing and Staying Strong Despite the Challenge.” Dr. Barrett-Gaines is Director of African American Studies at University of Maryland Eastern Shore where she is a tenured professor of African and African American History. She teaches courses in African American History, African History, Swahili, Philosophy, and Slavery.
In addition, the Heritage Celebration will feature music by Elder Michael Williams and the artistry of “Expressive Dancers” performing African dance routines. Both Elder Williams and the Expressive Dancers are members of Rehoboth Temple of Praise, Laurel, DE. Light refreshments will be served following the program.
