Annual Multicultural Festival Week at SU

Multicultural Festival

SALISBURY, MD—Salisbury University celebrates its 23rd annual Multicultural Festival Week, Monday-Wednesday, April 29-May 1.

Activities begin with SU’s annual President’s Diversity Awards presentation 3 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the Worcester Room of the Commons.

The African Student Association’s annual Multicultural Showcase follows at 5:30 p.m. in Red Square (rain location: Guerrieri Student Union, Wicomico Room). Student organizations showcase cultures through song, dance and interpretation.

A “Taste of Diversity” food sampling event is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Wicomico Room.

Wednesday, May 1, is Multicultural Festival Day. Activities are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Pergola (rain location: Wicomico Room). Performers include the Steel Kings Jamaican steel drum band and the Tobey Foyeh Orchestra. SU clubs and organizations host educational table displays during the event.

That evening, from 4:30-7:30 p.m., University Dining Services and the Cultural Affairs Office host a “Flavors of the Caribbean Islands” dinner, also featuring the Steel Kings, in the Commons. The menu includes Jamaican jerk drumsticks, blackened fish with mango pineapple salsa, pigeon peas and rice, grilled corn with lime butter, Caribbean greens, conch fritters, Jamaican sweet potato pudding and fried plantains with cinnamon and sugar. The Steel Kings perform. Cost is $14.20, $8.55 for children ages 5 and under. Reservations are not required.
