On Thursday, June 20, Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the June General Membership Luncheon at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury.
The attendees enjoyed a great luncheon followed by a presentation from Lyle Hogg, President/CEO of Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines affiliate.
Mr. Hogg reviewed the history of Piedmont Airlines and its role as a spoke and hub regional carrier for American Airlines. He also detailed the significant economic impacts airports and commercial air service brings to any community.
In order to remain competitive, the Salisbury Regional Airport needs runway expansions in order to draw more corporate clients to the Delmarva region. Shortages of aviation mechanics and competition for Federal funds to make airport improvements were also points in the presentation.
Last year, Piedmont flew over five-million passengers throughout the United States. The airline employs ten thousand workers system-wide and operates a sixty jet fleet.
The Salisbury Regional Airport hosts six daily non-stop Piedmont flights, two to Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT) and four to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (PHL).
