SALISBURY, MD – May 20, 2020 – BayRunner Shuttle, a locally-owned and operated airport shuttle announced it will re-open operations on the Eastern Shore of Maryland on June 1, 2020. This includes travel from and to Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) from Ocean City, Ocean Pines, Salisbury, Cambridge, Easton, and Kent Island. Travelers can book online at bayrunnershuttle.com or call 410-912-6000 to make reservations.
“We know everyone is eager to travel again and our team is committed to ensuring the safety of our drivers and passengers,” said Caroline Presburg, BayRunner Shuttle. “All of our shuttles are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between every trip and drivers and passengers will be required to wear face masks for their protection. While we are anxious to get back on the road again, we want our passengers to have confidence in our operations and the precautions we are taking to keep them safe and healthy.”
Regular passengers like Salisbury native, Diane Bradley have been patiently waiting for the announcement for some time.
“As soon as I heard BayRunner was re-opening I made a plane reservation for June 1st,” said Bradley. “I live in South Florida now and visit my mother who is in assisted living in Salisbury at least once a month. I have been a customer for over ten years, and I trust them completely. BayRunner is safe, comfortable, hassle free and I know the drivers well. It is like having a family member pick you up from the airport. They also offer free long-term parking which means I have a car waiting for me when I get dropped off.”
Diane is not the only one ready to travel again. BayRunner Shuttle recently conducted a customer survey and of the 260 respondents, 82.5% are still planning to travel domestically or internationally in 2020. While 38% are ready to fly again, the same percentage are choosing BayRunner Shuttle as their primary form of transportation. A majority are deciding late summer and early fall is when they will feel safe to resume their travel plans.
“We are seeing people with direct flights from BWI are keeping their schedules because less stops means less risk for exposure,” said Presburg. “Many people are also changing vacation plans to drive-to destinations. Our shuttles connect to buses in the West Ocean City Park and Ride which means they are literally dropped off at or near their hotels with limited transfers.
Dr. Memo Diriker, director of the Business Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) at Salisbury University agrees there is a pent-up demand for travel. He says people will be looking for direct flights and/or shorter distances, low fares, extreme hygiene methods and distancing in seating arrangements.
“Road trips will be preferred over long flights but the demand for trips to popular destinations will still be high,” added Diriker. “Business travel will actually be slower in picking up because companies are doing better than they expected with online meetings and the cost savings by not traveling are significant. But when it comes to family travel there is no doubt people who have not been able to visit their grandchildren, adult children, parents and grandparents are ready to make the trip.”
Something to Celebrate!
BayRunner Shuttle is celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year. The company has offered daily BWI shuttle service throughout Maryland from Ocean City’s beaches to the mountains of Western Maryland. BayRunner Shuttle also travels and partners with Amtrak (BWI Amtrak station) and Greyhound (Downtown Baltimore Greyhound station). Staffed by professionally licensed drivers, the company offers multiple daily departures from 14 pick-up locations across Maryland and free parking.
“We are proud to be the exclusive shuttle service from Baltimore to Ocean City to accommodate individuals and families looking to get away, college students traveling to and from school and the companies who depends on travel to conduct business,” said Presburg. “We bring people together in a safe, convenient and affordable way and plan to continue to do so for years to come.”
