SALISBURY, Md. – On Wednesday, Acting Wicomico County Executive John Psota announced the receipt of $49,617 in federal coronavirus relief funds through the CARES Act. These funds will support the development of the Kids Klub Learning Center, a new child care program for Wicomico County residents.
The funding was secured in coordination with the Wicomico County Health Department.
The Kids Klub Learning Center will provide services for families who cannot send their children to school due to closures forced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will comply with COVID-19-related public health measures.
Participants will follow their personal virtual curriculums and complete their individual assignments under the supervision of certified staff. Children will also have time to play games and make crafts.
In addition to supporting the development of the Learning Center, the relief funds allow the county to offer enrollment at a reduced rate of $128 per week per child. The age range will also be expanded to grades 2-5.
“We are grateful for these relief funds to better serve our community,” Psota said. “Our hope is that reducing rates will make the program more accessible for families in need of child care.”
County officials have also ramped up recruitment efforts to hire additional staff for the program.
“We are actively seeking qualified staff to work this program,” Psota said. “Increasing the number of staff will allow us to open more enrollment slots and serve more families.”
