Foundation Awards Over $90,000 for Community Needs
The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore has awarded a number of Community Needs grants totaling $90,046 which were distributed recently to twenty three nonprofit organizations on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The grants will benefit, either directly or indirectly, the residents of the region and are being awarded this fall from the Foundation’s Community Needs Funds. The next deadline for qualified nonprofit organizations to apply for community needs grants is February 1, 2015.
“Nonprofits on the Lower Eastern Shore have unique and complex needs,” said Doug Wilson, the Foundation’s President & CEO. “The Community Foundation is delighted to provide resources that help enhance the valuable programs and services these organizations provide.”
Grants in the current cycle were awarded to the following nonprofits.
Arts and Culture:
* Charles H. Chipman Foundation to support a Masters Peace performing artist guild 2015 cultural performances
* Delmarva Discovery Center to support more culturally diverse family programming at the Delmarva Discovery Center
* University of Maryland Eastern Shore to support multicultural performance events at the UMES Mosely Art Gallery
Health and Human Services:
* American Red Cross Lower Shore Chapter to provide direct aid support for disaster relief on the Lower Shore – specifically, support for victims of house fires, floods, nor’easters and hurricanes
* Arrow Child & Family Ministries of MD to provide psychiatric rehabilitation of Lower Eastern Shore children
* MAC, Inc. to support a caregiver outreach program through the Caregivers Resource Center
* St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church – Little Soup Kitchen to support expansion of feeding, pantry and community dinner program
* Salvation Army – Salisbury Corps to support senior citizen programs at the Oak Street location that has a new senior
* Three Lower Counties Community Services, Inc. to purchase thermometers for a pediatric wellness program that targets first time mothers
* YMCA of the Chesapeake, Inc. – Henson Family location to support the Healthy U.S., a pediatric weight management program
Neighborhood and Community:
* Princess Anne Police Department to purchase materials for a storage facility for equipment used at community events
* Salisbury Substance Abuse Community Center, Inc. to support the substance abuse center’s meeting space that is available to a variety of minority 12 step programs
* Seton Center/ Catholic Charities to support a prisoner reentry case management pilot program at the Seton Center
* Somerset County Local Management Board to create and implement a marketing and outreach campaign for the Somerset LMB
* Worcester County Library Foundation to support the print publishing of a public community resource directory
Youth and Education
* Athletes Serving Athletes of the Eastern Shore to purchase adaptive athletic equipment for athletes with disabilities
* Believe in Tomorrow National Children’s Foundation, Inc. to purchase six sleeper sofas and other furniture as needed for the Children’s House by the Sea locations in Ocean City and Fenwick
* Dove Pointe Foundation, Inc. to purchase computers and software to accommodate the College of Direct Support Training Program
* Eleven 21 Inc./Epoch Dreams to support an AmeriCorps member for the 2014-2015 after school program
* Friends of Worcester County Commission for Women to support the literacy program McGuffey Book Worm Club which distributes free books to seven Worcester County Schools
* Natural Partners to establish native pollinator gardens and a Monarch Sister Schools Program at two Lower Eastern Shore schools
* Red Doors Community Center to support a pilot coding computer language academy for both children and adults
* Salisbury University Office of Graduate Studies & Research (Lower Shore Childcare Resource Center) to support a single day conference for teaching strategies for Lower Shore family child care providers
