Wicomico County Welcomes Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association’s Eastern National Championships

Salisbury, MD –  This weekend Wicomico County will welcome 1,500 youth wrestlers from 12 states for the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association’s (MAWA) Eastern National Championships.

The event is held at the Wicomico Civic Center and is a substantial economic driver for the area. This year’s estimated direct economic impact is $1.7 million.

“This marks the 28th year MAWA’s Eastern National Championships has been hosted in Wicomico County,” said Cole Lacey, assistant tourism manager for Wicomico County. “We appreciate the local businesses that support the tournament each year.”

The event kicks off Friday night with a wrestling clinic hosted by three-time NCAA champions Aaron Brooks and Carter Starocci. The clinic will run from 7-8:30 p.m.

Matches will be held Saturday and Sunday. Opening ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, with wrestling starting at 8:45 a.m. Matches begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Daily tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students at the gate.
