Salisbury, MD – The Board of Trustees at The Salisbury School (TSS) is pleased to announce Mr. Claybourne “Clay” Elliott as the school’s next Head of School. After an extensive nationwide search, Mr. Elliott was chosen for his alignment with the Salisbury School’s methods, traditions, culture, collaborative leadership, and commitment to experiential learning.
“From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I was embraced by a warm and authentic community that perfectly reflected my beliefs in student-centered education and community,” said Mr. Elliott. “The Salisbury School’s dedication to academic excellence and experiential learning was palpable through the students’ enthusiasm, the faculty’s commitment, and even the campus architecture.”
Bringing 24 years of education experience, including teaching history and math to middle and high school students, and serving eight years as the Head of Middle School, Mr. Elliott possesses a wealth of expertise for his new role. He graduated with honors from Williams College with a B.A. in both history and math, and holds a master’s degree in Private School Leadership from Columbia University. Mr. Elliott’s qualifications extend beyond teaching; he also served as the site director for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, overseeing programs at two different university campuses during three summers. He actively participates in the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and has developed an educational program on “Faculty Empowerment” for private school administrators, which he will present at the upcoming 2023 SAIS conference.
The Salisbury School community eagerly anticipates welcoming Mr. Elliott, his wife Alissa, and their two daughters. Mr. Scott Robertson, Chair of the Salisbury School Board of Trustees, expressed full confidence in Mr. Elliott, stating, “We firmly believe that he will not only continue, but also enhance and expand all the qualities, programs, and traditions that we hold dear at our beloved school.”
