United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore (UWLES), recently facilitated an annual gift given in memory of 1944 Legacy Circle members, David & Alice Bernstein. UWLES partner agency Diakonia was the recipient of this year’s gift. They were chosen for their work to strengthen Lower Shore families through homeless prevention, veterans’ support and food insecurity programs. The gift is possible thanks to the Bernstein’s investment in United Way’s future community impact through the 1944 Legacy Fund.
L to R: Pam Gregory, UWLES President & CEO; Jake Bernstein, son of David & Alice Bernstein; Ken Argot, Diakonia Executive Director; Jim List, UWLES Board Development Chair.
About United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore:
United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore (UWLES), now in its 78th year of local service, harnesses the power of our community to advance health, education, and financial stability for all neighbors in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties. UWLES and their community partners help empower Lower Shore residents by addressing barriers to better health, supporting educational success for learners of all ages, and strengthening economic security for local households. UWLES provides direct services, collaborates with stakeholders, and supports dozens of local nonprofits to strengthen the entire community, impacting 1 in every 3 neighbors annually.
