FIRST Lego League Tournament

Wi Middle Tournament Winners

The Eastern Shore Regional Qualifying Tournament for FIRST Lego League was held at Salisbury Middle School on December 13th.  The mission of FLL is to show students of every age that science, technology, and problem-solving are not only fun and rewarding, but are proven paths to successful careers and a bright future. Guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, FLL introduces 9 – 12 year old students, to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface.

Fifteen teams from around the Eastern Shore, 8 from Wicomico County Middle Schools, competed in this year’s World Class Challenge. This qualifier was one of 19 official FLL qualifying tournaments in Maryland this season, supporting 350 teams and 2600 students throughout Maryland.  All this was accomplished with the help of over 1000 volunteers.  Volunteers through the Salisbury area assisted as judges and referees and helped by volunteering in other capacities to pull off the full day event. Three teams, Wi Middle Miners, SMS LEGO Elite and Wicomico County Library Awesome Rites, will proceed to the State Tournament at UMBC in February.

Local support, both financial and service, was invaluable and had a tremendous impact on many students in the county and region. A shout out THANK YOU to all who participated in any way to make this day a success. Supporters include: AWB Engineering, TEC Foundation, RMF Engineering, Salisbury University, Wor-Wic Community College, Wicomico County Public Library, PRMC, WaWa, Baxter Enterprises, Chick-fil-A, Home Depot, Giant Foods, Coca-Cola of Salisbury, Burger King Mt.
