BALTIMORE, MD – In response to today’s Advisory on Firearm Violence issued by U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, declaring firearm violence in America to be a public health crisis, Attorney General Anthony G. Brown issued the following the statement:
“Today the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory declaring firearm violence in our country to be a public health crisis. Here in Maryland, families are suffering due to preventable gun violence. Mass shootings in Brooklyn Park, at Morgan State University, in Joppatowne, in Annapolis – and that’s in 2023 alone – have caused so much pain and heartbreak. We cannot live like this. It is more than a crisis; it is an epidemic. I have long supported common-sense gun measures, and will continue to do so, that will prevent much of the violence that is plaguing our communities. I commend Surgeon General Murthy on taking this bold action to protect the safety and well-being of those who call America home.”
