Wicomico Habitat Hosts Veterans Season of Service

SALISBURY, MD – Throughout the fall of 2024 Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County (HFHWC) will be celebrating a Season of Service honoring veterans, active military personnel, and their families. In fiscal year 2023, HFHWC served 11 veterans with critical home repairs and aging-in-place modifications, thanks in part to support provided by Home Depot, the Owens Corning Roof Deployment program, and the Kathryn Burrell Federico Trust.

Beginning in September, HFHWC will host volunteer build days on their new construction site at Grace Street in Salisbury. To honor and remember those who serve, have served, and those who have fallen, the build days will take place on September 10 and 11. Veterans, their families, active military, and their supporters are encouraged to volunteer. All volunteers will receive a RED (Remember Everyone Deployed) tee shirt.

On November 13, HFHWC will host veterans, veteran advocates, community leaders, and government officials in a community roundtable luncheon to discuss key needs of the veteran community and means by which the community can come together to address them.

Throughout the months of October and December, HFHWC will round off its Season of Service with two full months of recognition. In October, ReStore customers in both the Salisbury and Fruitland locations will be encouraged to purchase a “brick” to place on the Veteran Wall of honor to recognize a military service member in their life. In December, all employees will wear RED shirts on Fridays, to honor those who are deployed and the families who support them from home.

“We are excited to increase our outreach to active and veteran military personnel both in need of assistance, and who are in a place to assist others,” said Christina Williams, HFHWC Director of Development. “It is our honor and duty to serve those who have served.”

Individuals and organizations wishing to participate in any of the activities are asked to call Habitat at 410-546-1551 or email karen@wicomicohabitat.org.
