Rotary Club of Salisbury Adds Award to Benefit the Community

Ace and Ann Parker

The Rotary Club of Salisbury has created a new award of recognition – the Ace Parker Community Service Award.  This award annually will recognize an active club member who has made a positive impact in the community.  The recipient of the award will receive $1,000 to be distributed to the charity of his or her choice.  The award will be funded through the Ace Parker Community Service Award Endowment Fund established at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.

This endowment was established by Ace and his wife Ann’s children; Anne and Scott Parker and Wendy and Tom Rosenthal.  The endowment will fund this award in perpetuity.

Long retired forester Ace Parker for 25 years, starting at age 70, has coordinated the club’s volunteers who make Meals on Wheels deliveries to needy, elderly persons through the MAC Center.  In that quarter of a century, club members have delivered 110,000 meals while saving MAC’s home delivered meals program $460,000 as the volunteers do not seek reimbursement for their travel costs.

Mr. Parker has said the secret to longevity is exercise, eating well and helping others.  “I love doing things for other people.  It just makes me feel good.”  His focus on helping others was one reason for the creation of the award.

The Rotary Club of Salisbury welcomes new members to join with Mr. Parker in fellowship, fun, and helping their community.  Contact Ginnie Malone at 410-251-6188 or gmalone@cbmove.com to learn more or visit www.rotarysalisbury.org.  The club meets weekly on Thursday evenings for dinner at the Rotary Scout and Community Center along Riverside Drive near Salisbury.
