Seaford, DE – TidalHealth Nanticoke is pleased to announce that Ben Sabean, RN, of the Surgical Specialties and Robotics Unit (SSRU), has been selected as its Daisy Award recipient for November 2024.

Sabean was nominated by a patient’s wife for the care and compassion he provided. She wrote:

“Ben provided my husband excellent care! He was very quick to respond to his request and questions, his communication was very good, and he explained each medication prior to administering it. He was very kind to not only my husband but also to me, always making me feel welcome in the room while giving respectful and compassionate care. We really felt that Ben was on our side and fighting right along with us! We have been to this hospital many times without complaint, but we really feel the quality of our hospital was exceeded during this stay.

Thank you, Ben, for making these days better!”

Sabean was honored with the Daisy Award in a ceremony before his colleagues. He received certificates commending him for being an extraordinary nurse, and a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
