Salisbury, MD; January 14, 2025 – On Friday, January 10, Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County celebrated the blessing of the Yacinthe home. Staff of Wicomico Habitat and local dignitaries, donors, and supporters came together to welcome the family to their new home. The Friends of the Wicomico Public Library and the Delmarva Knitters Group contributed books and a handcrafted throw. A blessing basket comprised of donations from local businesses was also presented to the family. Donors and supporters who helped with the building process were recognized during the event. On hand to welcome the new family was the Wicomico County Council President, John Cannon, and Council Vice-President, Jeff Merritt. Pastor Greg Carlson from Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church blessed the family and home.
The Yacinthes dreamed of owning a home of their own, but with the housing market, even finding a rental that was less than 1/3 of their household income proved difficult. Their dream of homeownership seemed all but impossible. However, when they found Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County, their dreams surged back to life. When asked about what excited them about being homeowners, Mrs. Yacinthe said, “We can paint the walls any color we want. We can plant flowers in a new garden and make changes or remodel to our liking. We cannot do that if we rent.” The Yacinthe’s purchased their home in the Salisbury Church Street neighborhood, a house rehabbed alongside Habitat’s two new homes currently under construction on Grace Street.
