January is National Mentoring Month. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore (BBBSES) proudly honors the transformative power of mentorship and the profound impact of relationships between Bigs and Littles in the community. This nationwide celebration highlights the connections that shape brighter futures and inspire potential in young people.

“National Mentoring Month’ is a powerful reminder of the transformative impact a mentor can have on a young person’s life. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, we see firsthand how guidance, support, and encouragement can open doors to brighter futures. We invite our community to join us in this mission—become a mentor, inspire potential, and make a difference that lasts a lifetime,” said Executive Director, Jessica Mimms about National Mentoring Month.

“Being a mentor is about sharing experiences with a little and opening their mind to exceeding their potential, finding new visions, and experiencing things they never have before….it is very rewarding to me” said Cameron Drew, a Wicomico County Mentor.

Throughout January, BBBSES emphasizes the vital role of mentors, known as “Bigs,” in fostering positive change. In recognition of this, county proclamations have been issued in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Worcester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties, underscoring the importance of mentorship for the youth of the Eastern Shore.

In celebration of National Mentoring Month, BBBSES will host a Mixer in partnership with the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 4 to 6 pm. This event, which also coincides with International Pie Day, will feature contributions from The Ugly Pie in Salisbury and refreshments provided by Red Light Liquors in Denton.

Following National Mentoring Month, BBBSES, in collaboration with the Queen Anne’s Chamber of Commerce, will organize a Business After Hours event at Ten Eyck Brewing Company in Queenstown on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 4 to 6 pm. Attendees can enjoy food, drinks, and various activities.

Caring adult mentors are needed to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore. To learn more about becoming a mentor, please visit www.shorebiglittle.org or call 410-543-2447 for further information about the program.
