Salisbury, MD – This year’s Red Kettle Campaign alone raised $122,000 thanks to the support of local donors and partners. The money, raised between November 28 and December 24, will help The Salvation Army provide food, shelter and social services to those in need throughout the year, not just during the Holiday Season.

“It is such a blessing to be part of such a generous community—one filled with helping hands and loving hearts that understand the importance of lifting up our neighbors. Together, we make our community stronger.” said Captain Angel Simmons, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army of Salisbury.

The Salvation Army of Salisbury enjoyed a jam-packed holiday season with events and initiatives. Starting from the top:

Our annual Red Kettle breakfast, hosted by the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, kicked off the Campaign with awards and guest speakers. The event served as a hub for donorship opportunities, volunteerism efforts and award recognitions. The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is one of the oldest and largest charitable campaigns in the world. We were honored to extend an in advance thank you to our Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester County bell ringers, locally contributing to 1,500 volunteer hours.

Red Kettles outside of Walmart, Sam’s Club, Hobby Lobby, Food Lion, Shore Stop, Ace Hardware, Raines Reef, Kellyn’s Kafe, and Boscov’s across the Lower Eastern Shore contributed to our goal. Online bell ringers hosted a virtual kettle via onlineredkettle.org. Online Red Kettle donations totaled nearly $500.

Angel tree Distribution was a success on December 18. Spreading love and hope to our adopted Angels. Several local businesses, non-profits, churches and amazing individuals,
made providing Holiday gifts as a movement of kindness possible. Over 1,608 local Angels received a gift filled Christmas morning thanks to these charitable contributions.

The Salvation Army of Salisbury was able to provide food to over 2,600 people in the month of December alone. We collected $269,000 in Gift-In-Kind donations, allowing non-monetary gifts to contribute to serving the local need. Our organization is on the frontlines on The Lower Eastern Shore, 365 days a year, providing hope to those who
need it most serving in Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties. Our support and services extend throughout the entire year, not just during the holiday season. On
December 24th The Salvation Army rang the final bell, signifying the end of a great Red Kettle Campaign and the start to a new year of Doing the Most Good.

Every year, The Salvation Army of Salisbury helps nearly 13,500 people, roughly 39 persons per minute. Donations help provide more than 150 rent appointments, roughly 6,292 meals, and 429 kids with after-school summer, sports, & camp programs. During the holiday season, nearly 2,600 people rely on the local Salvation Army to provide their families with warm meals on Christmas Day or toys for their children.
