Salisbury, MD —TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that Shamaya Boston, Patient Care Technician of patient care area 3 Layfield, has been selected as its Sunshine Award recipient for January 2025.
Boston was recognized for her professionalism, kindness, and compassion by a nurse on the unit. In nominating her, she wrote:
“On Thanksgiving night of last year, Shamaya was the tech for one of my patients whose family had been in contact with her all day, stating they were coming to see her and bring her a plate for Thanksgiving.
While speaking with the patient, Shamaya learned about the patient’s family’s promise to visit. The patient was upset to the point of tears because no one from her family showed up, despite their promises to do so.
Our staff just happened to be having a potluck for the holiday and Shamaya was so affected by this patient’s story, she made her a plate and brought it to her. The patient was again brought to tears, but this time because of Shamaya’s kindness and compassion. The patient was able to find something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving, thanks to Shamaya’s empathy.”
Boston was honored in a ceremony before her coworkers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin and a certificate recognizing her exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
