
The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee Network (SACC-EN) and the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES) are proud to announce Season 3, Episode 2, Part 1 of Education is Everybody’s Business – Eastern Shore Concerns That Matter: The Challenges of Immigrant Language. This two-part episode is set to raise community awareness and knowledge of topics that impact education here on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.
Host Ladd Colston, Ph.D., CEO of Sustainable-Vision, LLC, introduces Co-Host Dr. Brian Stiegler, Assistant Provost for International Education at Salisbury University, who shares his thoughts on the value of education and community engagement in helping immigrants to overcome language and cultural challenges,
Immigrants are an integral part of Maryland’s diverse and thriving communities. The three most significant populations of immigrants on the Eastern Shore are Latino, Haitian, and Korean, with many working in the Delmarva agricultural, poultry, and crab industries and are a major part of our region’s workforce.
Joining Dr. Stiegler are Dr. Ricardo Vazquez, Assistant Professor of Modern Language at Salisbury University, and Leila Borrero Krouse, Organizer and Immigrant Specialist, who discuss how education plays a significant role in helping new immigrant communities to integrate into their new environment.
