Poplar Hill Mansion Festival Brings History to Life in Salisbury

Salisbury, MD — Step back in time at the award-winning Annual Poplar Hill Mansion Festival as Salisbury celebrates its rich Federal Period history! This beloved community event will take place on May 4, 2025 from Noon to 4 P.M., offering a full day of immersive historical experiences, educational activities, and family-friendly entertainment.

The festival will feature period reenactments from the Chesapeake Independent Blues, War of 1812 re-enactors, as well as period music performed by Geneque Garrison on piano. Experience the grace of history with period dancing by the Dover English Country Dancers, bringing the traditions of the early 19th century to life.

Guests can also explore educational displays from local nonprofits and historical societies, participate in children’s activities, and enjoy hands-on experiences like the Kid Curators Tent, Shelly’s Shenanigans Game Area, and a festive May Pole dance to honor May Day.

Visitors can browse the Market Square, where vendors will offer handcrafted goods and delicious food. Guided tours of Poplar Hill Mansion will be available throughout the day, with volunteers dressed in authentic period attire to enhance the experience.

“This festival is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Salisbury’s heritage and engage with history in a way that’s both fun and educational,” said Sarah Myers, Poplar Hill Mansion Curator. “Whether you’re a history enthusiast or just looking for a great family outing, there’s something for everyone.”

The Poplar Hill Mansion Festival is free to attend, with parking available at Bethesda Methodist Church at the corner of Division St. and Isabella St. in the historic Newtown Neighborhood. To accommodate the festivities, Elizabeth Street between Rt. 13 and Division St. will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please plan accordingly and follow posted detours.
