Wicomico, MD — Wicomico Public Library is honored to announce a monumental $1 million gift from the Richard A. Henson Foundation toward the forthcoming Paul S. Sarbanes Library on Schumaker Pond. This major donation will support the creation of the grand meeting hall in the new flagship library, expected to open in Summer 2027.
The leading gift, one of the largest donations in the library’s history, underscores the Richard A. Henson Foundation’s commitment to acting as a catalyst to encourage positive change in the community.
At the Library’s recent Design Reveal & Campaign Kickoff event, Richard A. Henson Foundation Chairman Greg Olinde quoted Mr. Henson, stating, “individuals and businesses have a social and humanitarian responsibility to improve the community in which they live.”
The new Richard A. Henson Meeting Hall, a 2,200-square-foot space for meetings, events, and celebrations, is expected to be one of the most visually striking areas of the future library.
“A library is such a critical component of what makes a vibrant community,” said Mr. Olinde. “Aside from being a book repository, our library offers technology, programs, and a multitude of resources for all. This new location with beautiful natural surroundings will be an inviting and welcoming place for residents to relax and bury their head in a book, conduct research… and socialize with others.”
