Salisbury, MD — TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that Marianne Harvey, RN, of the Special Care Nursery, has been selected as its DAISY Award recipient for August 2025.
Harvey was nominated by a fellow nurse for going above and beyond when assisting with an infant in the Emergency Department (ED):
“I requested Marianne’s help with IV placement on a two-month-old infant that had already been stuck three times with no success. My request for help with line placement from the special care nursery on a pediatric patient is not an entirely abnormal occurrence for us here in the ED, and while the special care nurses are always wonderful to deal with, Marianne went above and beyond. She was so kind when she answered my call and did not hesitate to assist. When she arrived down here in the ED, she threw herself into the mix right away and started looking for the line.
Marianne had such a positive demeanor and was amazing with my patient’s family. She had taken time to look through the patient’s chart before entering the room, familiarizing herself with the case and the patient. When she went in and the patient’s family was expressing frustration, Marianne instantly took over with both confident and compassionate replies to their concerns.
She also took time to teach the family about the probable next steps in care for patients with similar issues to help quell the family’s concerns. I learned some new things while listening to her explain to the family about bilirubin lights. She even took time to explain and show me good places to look for IV placement on infants, and I learned a new way of stabilizing IVs on very small infants.
The pediatrician came to the bedside while Marianne was there, and she took time to respectfully question the pediatrician about additional care and labs the patient may need.
She was probably in the ED for over an hour, and the whole time she was extremely kind and helpful to me, the patient and her family. It was such a positive experience and made me hope that if my child ever ends up in the hospital, they will get a nurse as knowledgeable and kind as Marianne.”
Harvey was honored with the DAISY Award in a ceremony before her colleagues. She received certificates commending her for being an extraordinary nurse, and a sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.
