Salisbury, MD — Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County (HFHWC) hosted a day of service and remembrance at the home of a U.S. Army Veteran to honor the sacrifices and lives lost on September 11.

Corporal Dana Condron, U.S. Marine Corps veteran; Jake Day, Maryland Secretary of Housing and Community Development; and Heather Geraldes, Executive Director for Maryland Veterans Trust each delivered opening remarks, memorializing the events of September 11, and highlighting the importance of community engagement, service, and unity. Volunteers replaced rotten decking boards, replaced a leaking sliding door, and enhanced curb appeal through yard beautification efforts.

Habitat is grateful to volunteers and neighbors who volunteered their time and effort, and to J-Dog Junk Removal for the donation of a dumpster for the day’s work. This Day of Service was made possible through generous funding and support from AmeriCorps through Habitat for Humanity International.

HFHWC is dedicated to empowering veterans and strives to provide them with safe and affordable housing while also offering personal growth within our community. Habitat is continuing its support of veterans by holding a crab feast fundraiser in partnership with VFW Meuse Post 194 on Saturday, September 20, beginning at 1pm. Tickets will be available at the door.

Individuals and organizations wishing to learn more about HFHWC’s Veterans Build program or attend the crab feast can visit Habitat’s website at wicomicohabitat.org.
