Crisfield, MD – TidalHealth is proud to announce that its Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been recognized as a “High Performing” facility for Long-Term Care in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Nursing Homes ratings — the publication’s highest possible distinction in this category, which just 47 centers in Maryland earned.
This national honor places the Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center among an elite group of nursing homes across the country recognized for providing exceptional long-term care, superior quality, and resident safety.
Fewer than 19 percent of all nursing homes evaluated by U.S. News each year earn the “High Performing” designation, and the Crisfield center is the only one recognized in that category on the Lower Eastern Shore.
“This recognition by U.S. News & World Report reflects the compassion, professionalism, and dedication of our team at Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center,” said Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, President/CEO of TidalHealth. “Providing safe, high-quality care for our residents is a cornerstone of our mission. We are incredibly proud of our team in Crisfield for setting the standard for long-term care across our region and beyond.”
Facilities are rated based on 17 quality measures using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other sources. Criteria include staffing levels, resident outcomes, preventive care, use of antipsychotic medications, and emergency department visits. The U.S. News methodology emphasizes patient-centered metrics that help families identify facilities committed to consistent excellence in long-term care.

Since its inception in 2009, U.S. News & World Report’s Best Nursing Homes ratings have served as a trusted resource for families seeking high-quality senior care. The 2026 ratings evaluated more than 15,000 nursing homes nationwide, with only a select group achieving the “High Performing” distinction in either long-term care or short-term rehabilitation.
