Wor-Wic Community College has partnered with the Cyber Workforce Accelerator (CWA) program to expand Maryland’s cybersecurity talent pipeline by providing free online training in this in-demand career field.
The training is offered through Wor-Wic’s continuing education and workforce development division. It consists of 40 hours of online coursework, followed by eight hours of hands-on practice, working with an instructor on the BCR Cyber Series 3000 Cyber Range — a special practice area where participants find, fix and stop fake computer attacks. After successful completion of the course and an exam, participants will earn the SOC Operations Analyst I certification, recognized by the state of Maryland, which can help secure an entry level cybersecurity job.
Participants in the program must:
- Be a Maryland resident and a U.S. citizen
- Be 18 years or older (or 17, turning 18 within six months)
- Have no criminal convictions
- Have or be working toward an associate degree in IT/cybersecurity, or have two of these certifications: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ and/or CompTIA Security+
- Be actively seeking employment in IT/cybersecurity
For those who are interested but do not meet the certification requirements, CompTIA training is also available at Wor-Wic, and financial assistance may be available for those who qualify. For information about the programs, visit worwic.edu and visit the “Computers and Technology” section under “Non-Credit Courses.”
Established in 2024, the CWA program was developed by the Maryland Association of Community Colleges (MACC) and BCR Cyber. It provides Cyber Ranges to Maryland community colleges for use in both workforce development programs and college curricula.
