Salisbury, MD — Salisbury University has issued a traffic advisory for its annual Spring Commencement, scheduled Wednesday-Thursday, May 20-21.
The Wednesday ceremony, for graduate students, is scheduled 6 p.m. at Maggs Physical Activities Center. That day, SU Parking Lots A and B (Chesapeake Hall and Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons) will be reserved for graduates and their families. Lot C (Perdue Hall) will be reserved for accessible parking for the ceremony, available only to those with an accessible parking pass provided in advance by SU.
Graduate Commencement parking also will be available in Lot D (Guerrieri University Center), Lot E (Commons), and SU’s Wayne Street Garage. Slight delays are possible on Route 13 near campus beginning at 4 p.m. as graduates and their families arrive for the ceremony.
The Thursday ceremony, for undergraduates, is scheduled 9 a.m. at Sea Gull Stadium. To prepare for and break down the event, Wayne Street will be closed between Bateman and Power streets from 6 p.m. Sunday, May 17, until 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21.
Heavy traffic is expected on all routes leading to SU from 6-9 a.m. and noon-2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, including Route 13, Milford Street, Beaglin Park Drive and College Avenue. Avery, Bateman, Wayne and Power streets will be closed to non-Commencement traffic from 6 a.m.-2 p.m.
Graduates and guests arriving on Bateman Street from Route 13 will be directed to park in the Wayne Street Garage. Those arriving from South Division Street will be directed to park in the Avery Street Parking Lot.
A drop-off area for guests with mobility issues will be located on Power Street, south of the stadium. Accessible parking for those with an accessible parking pass provided in advance by SU will be located in the East Campus Complex on Power Street.
Overflow parking for graduates and guests will be reserved on campus in Parking Lots A, B and D (Guerrieri Student Union). Guests planning to watch the ceremony remotely from viewing rooms at the Guerrieri Academic Commons and Maggs Physical Activities Center also should plan to park in these lots.
Shuttles for the undergraduate ceremony will run regularly from the Lot A bus stop, Lot D (Guerrieri Student Union entrance), Lot E (Commons), and Lot H (College Avenue solar lot).
No street parking adjacent to campus or athletics facilities will be allowed. Individuals attending Commencement are reminded that parking without permission on non-SU property, including at local businesses and K-12 schools, is prohibited. Vehicles violating these rules may be ticketed or towed. Carpooling is recommended when possible.
