Snow Hill, MD — The Town of Snow Hill is pleased to announce that the Julia A. Purnell Museum has been awarded a $12,000 grant from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority to support collections and cataloging work.
The funding will support Phase One of a three‑phase collections and cataloging project, helping the museum bring in an intern to begin adding and documenting collection pieces in the museum’s collections‑management software, focusing specifically on items stored in the collection.
The project will strengthen the museum’s ability to preserve, document, and share the stories and objects that reflect Snow Hill’s history, as well as the broader heritage of Worcester County and Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
“This grant allows us to take an important first step in improving how we care for and share our collection,” Tina Busko, executive director of the Julia A. Purnell Museum said. “By focusing on cataloging items held in storage, we are strengthening the foundation for future research, exhibitions, and public access.”
Cataloging work is expected to begin in September, following the official grant agreement signing and receipt of the first 50% of the award.

Located at 208 W. Market Street in Snow Hill, Maryland, the Julia A. Purnell Museum preserves and shares the history, art, and culture of Snow Hill, Worcester County, and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Housed in the former St. Agnes Catholic Church, built in 1891, the museum features exhibits highlighting local life from the 16th through 20th centuries, including folk art, textiles, everyday objects, and the needle art of Julia A. Purnell.
