Salisbury, MD — The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce will host a free one-hour webinar on Wednesday, August 13, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., to introduce local employers to a new state workforce opportunity: the Tech Corps, a cohort within the state’s flagship Maryland Corps / Service Year Option (MC/SYO) program.
The Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation (DSCI) is currently identifying organizations interested in partnering with the Maryland Corps / Service Year Option (MC/SYO) program. Through this subsidized workforce and service program, DSCI places civic-minded 18-to-24-year-olds into full-time service roles lasting nine or more months.
This year, DSCI is launching its new Tech Corps — a cohort of Members within the MC/SYO program who, with employer supervisor, can:
- IT Support: Provide IT support to troubleshoot systems, manage devices, and support users.
- Digital Transformation: Digitize paper processes, build databases, develop websites, and train staff how to use digital tools.
- AI Literacy & Adoption: Build chatbots, automate workflows, and design AI agents; Train staff to use and integrate AI tools.
- Data Entry & Analysis: Collect, clean, and analyze digital data to improve business processes and outcomes.
- Accessible IT: Design digital resources, like websites and apps, in a way that meets accessibility standards.
The best part: To help cover at least the $15/hour minimum wage, DSCI provides a grant of up to $20,000 per hire — meaning an employer can bring on a full-time hire for only roughly $7,450 for the nine month service term. The state also provides each Member with a dedicated Success Coach and weekly professional development to support their growth.
