SALISBURY, Maryland — TidalHealth recently announced the promotion of Susan Elerding, MHA, RN, CPHQ, CSSBB, to Senior Director of Clinical Quality and Infection Prevention.
Elerding brings 37 years of experience with TidalHealth and a distinguished career spanning bedside nursing, information technology, clinical performance improvement, and clinical quality. Her extensive experience and deep understanding of the organization position her well to provide strategic leadership for TidalHealth’s continued focus on quality and patient safety.
“Susan has been the leading expert and force behind the progression of the TidalHealth System approach and delivery of quality and safety to our community,” Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Trudy Hall, MD said.
Elerding began her career at Peninsula Regional as a new graduate nurse in the Coronary Care Unit after graduating from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Following nine years of bedside nursing, she accepted an opportunity to help build the organization’s electronic medical record. What began as a temporary assignment developed into a decade-long career in Information Technology, where she gained valuable expertise in technology, data, analytics, and process improvement.
She later transitioned into Clinical Performance Improvement and ultimately into her previous role as Director of Clinical Quality. Throughout her career, she has continued to expand her knowledge and expertise, earning her Master of Healthcare Administration and professional certifications that have strengthened her ability to lead complex quality and performance improvement initiatives.
In her new role as Senior Director of Clinical Quality and Infection Prevention, she will provide expanded leadership and strategic oversight of TidalHealth’s quality and patient safety efforts. She will continue to partner with clinical and operational leaders across the health system to advance performance improvement initiatives, strengthen quality and safety outcomes, support regulatory and accreditation readiness, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
“Her extensive experience navigating organizational growth and change has been key to integrating clinical quality for our patients across our system,” Dr. Hall said. “Her ability to build relationships, collaborate across departments, and connect quality initiatives to the needs of patients, families, and care teams will be an important asset as TidalHealth continues to grow.”
Elerding’s 37-year journey reflects a commitment to lifelong learning, adaptability, collaboration, and service. From caring for patients at the bedside to leading system-wide quality initiatives, she has consistently embraced opportunities to grow and make a meaningful impact on the organization in both the hospital and ambulatory setting.
