Snow Hill Mayor Janet Simpson has announced that long-time police chief Andy McGee has resigned his office with the Town to accept the same position in Pocomoke City. Detective Sergeant Rudell Brown, of the Snow Hill Police Department, will assume the title of Interim Chief until a permanent chief can be hired. Applications for the position have been posted on-line and in various police recruiting resources.
Chief McGee has served as Snow Hill’s police chief since June of 2019. In that time, Snow Hill has been recognized as a model for community policing and maintaining a low crime rate. Chief McGee oversaw a planned modernization of the department, including advances in methods and technology as well as a relocation to a new police station just last year.
Sgt. Brown is a 37-year veteran of police work with service in the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department and the Pocomoke City Police Department, with the last five years in Snow Hill. He enjoys a stellar reputation among his colleagues and across the community for calm and professional police service, often bringing stability to tense situations. He excels in frontline policing and criminal investigations as well as having a command of the nature of road patrol.
In making the transition in the police department known, Mayor Simpson said, “While we are sad to see Chief McGee leave Snow Hill, we are incredibly grateful for his dedicated service and leadership. We have complete confidence in Detective Sergeant Rudell Brown as he steps into the role of Interim Chief. His deep knowledge of our community and proven track record within the department ensure that Snow Hill remains in excellent hands during this transition.”
Sgt. Brown will take the oath of office as Interim Chief at Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Mayor & Council in the boardroom of the Worcester County Commissioners. A formal transfer of the Chief’s Badge from Chief McGee to Interim Chief Brown will follow.
