The Rotary Club of Salisbury is always busy in service to its community. One of the many projects you will find the club participating in on a regular basis is the construction of wheelchair ramps at the request of and with assistance from the Chesapeake Housing Mission.
On Saturday, May 14, the club-with a little help from their friends-constructed an impressive 55 foot ramp for a Salisbury couple facing a number of serious health challenges that make it difficult for them to get in and out of their home on Mt. Hermon Church Road.
23 Rotarians and three of their family members were joined by a number of parishioners from St. Alban’s Episcopal Church to build the u-shaped structure. It took the better part of the day and the construction skills of the group totaling 32 people to complete the important project by 4:00 p.m. and ahead of the rain.
The Rotary Club of Salisbury team was led by Terry Greenwood. Vernon Rivers, the 2014 recipient of the club’s 4-Way Test Award, led the team from St. Alban’s, the church to which the homeowners belong. In the spirit of Rotary, everyone pitched in to help with the build including club members who provided coffee, cold drinks and a deli lunch.
