The MBA program in the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University (Salisbury, MD) includes a project consulting course, which MBA students take in their final semester after having completed all of their coursework. This course has been taught for many years. This year, we are adding a virtual team component by managing projects at a distance using video conferencing, collaborative workspaces, and online presentations for analysis and recommendations. This allows us to invite organizations to work with our students outside of the Salisbury, MD area. We invite you to send us a synopsis of a problem we might solve for your organization.
In addition to traditional MBA coursework such as finance, economics, and accounting, our program includes courses that focus on business operations/analysis, enterprise systems, marketing, human resources, and strategy. Our unique curriculum incorporates SAP, an enterprise resource planning software, as a tool in our information technology, supply chain, business marketing analytics, and accounting courses. Details concerning our curriculum can be found at http://www.salisbury.edu/admissions/deptfacts/pdfs/SU-Business-M.B.A..pdf. A biography of our consulting instructor, Dr. Stephen Adams can be found at http://www.salisbury.edu/mgmtmktg/dept-directory.html.
The class is structured so that MBA consulting teams meet online with their clients early in the term (late January/early February), make a presentation of project status at mid-semester (March), and then a final presentation (late April/early May). Early in the term, teams produce an engagement letter, which clients either agree to or amend. At the end of the term, teams provide an analysis of the problem, and a final recommendation.
Should you choose to become a client, any members of your organization may participate. We would, however, have two requests:
- You designate one individual as point of contact throughout the duration of the program (January through mid-May).
- Each of your team members must be available to participate using online conferencing and collaboration technology to communicate with our team of MBA consultants.
If your organization is interested in engaging our graduating MBA students on a consulting project, please send the MBA Director, Yvonne Downie Hanley (yxdownie@salisbury.edu) a few paragraphs explaining what you would like our students to do and the point of contact for the project’s duration. Engagements will be selected and client organizations notified the first week of January, 2017. Submissions received prior to December 1st will be given priority.
