SALISBURY, MD—Aristotle famously defined laughter as an exclusively human trait. But how exactly is laughter — and more generally, humor — a sign of what is either laudable or worrisome in nature?
Salisbury University attempts to answer that question and more during its 39th annual Philosophy Symposium, “The Laughing Animal” 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in Conway Hall Room 153.
Guest speakers include Drs. Anca Parvulescu of Washington University in St. Louis, author of Laughter: Notes on a Passion; and John Lombardini of the College of William and Mary, author of The Politics of Socratic Humor.
The morning session features speaker presentations. The afternoon includes a panel and open discussion.
