Salisbury- The City of Salisbury is excited to announce that it’s 2020 Summer Youth Work Program will still be held this year, with a few changes and safety measures. The City’s Neighborhood Relations team has worked hard to formulate a program that will be both safe and beneficial for program participants. All applicants from the Spring application period will still be considered, and new eligible applicants are encouraged to apply before the July 10th deadline.
“We are so pleased to be able to offer this program again this Summer, and I want to thank our HCDD and Neighborhood Services teams for thinking outside of the box to make the program a safe and healthy work experience for local kids,” shared Salisbury City Administrator, Julia Glanz.
Ten to twelve applicants will be selected to participate in this year’s program, which will span six weeks, instead of the previous ten. From July 13th to August 20th, participants will meet with City of Salisbury Youth Development Specialist, Jermichael Mitchell, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.
The group will complete service learning projects, discuss current events, and participate in projects at City parks, community centers, and the City’s many community gardens. At the end of the program, participants will receive a stipend and an educational award for their service to their City.
“A summer job is an important step on the path to a solid career. The City of Salisbury understands that our youth are our future and we are excited to play a role in showing the younger generation how to be responsible, well-rounded citizens,” added Kevin Lindsay, City of Salisbury Neighborhood Relations Manager.
By the end of the program, participants will have established work experience history, learned valuable job skills, cultivated the knowledge necessary for future career growth, and gained access to different resources in and around the City.
