“Cancer warriors have a special place in my heart,” Charles said. “I have penned three cancer-fighting anthems, traveled the country leading survivor ceremonies as Zero Cancer National Spokesman, and organizing events through our own Non-Profit ‘I Am Not Alone.’ I am excited to support this amazing organization in my hometown and bring the ‘Party with a Purpose.’ We can never do enough to fight this horrible disease until it is gone for good!”

Charles will continue his support of cancer survivors and his hometown community with this June 10, 2023 Black-Tie event. He has served as a national spokesman for ZERO the End of Prostate Cancer since 2014, prior to the release of his hit song, Superman. Written in collaboration with bandmate Goose Gossett and cancer survivor-mentor Phil Shulka, the song’s companion video premiered on CMT, trending in the #1 spot for more than a week. Charles now performs at ZERO events around the country throughout the year to promote awareness of the importance of early prostate cancer detection.

Charles and his wife, Miranda, also formed their own non-profit, #IAMNOTALONE, which focuses on the strength and well-being of all cancer survivors. Charles was named Outstanding Young Tennessean in 2017 for his work against the disease. He went on to win the national Ten Outstanding Young Americans (TOYA) honor in 2019.

2022 has been another incredibly successful year for the Maryland native. This past August, Charles received a prestigious International Singers-Songwriters Association (ISSA) “Male Entertainer of the Year” award and unveiled a new music video featuring his most recent hit single, It’s A Maryland Thing, You Wouldn’t Understand. Since that summer release, Charles has performed the song live at Baltimore Orioles’ and Baltimore Ravens’ home games, and is scheduled to perform at a University of Maryland basketball game in College Park this January.

Charles was born and raised in Ocean City, MD. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Towson University, he headed to Nashville to pursue his singing and songwriting career. He auditioned for Nashville Star along with 40,000 other people and advanced to the top 50. Charles would go on to earn a unanimous vote ticket to “Hollywood” as a Season 9 American Idol contestant.

While the singer-songwriter found early success in 2014 with his first single, Whatever It Takes, which was picked up nationally by iHeart radio, it was the power ofSuperman that solidified his place in the industry spotlight. Charles’ music video for Hard Way To Gopremiered with CMT and also climbed to #1 on The Country Network. The video was paired with an outreach program with national partners American Addiction Centers, Vertava Health, and other addiction awareness non-profits to help reach those battling addiction.

In addition to the ISSA Male Entertainer of the Year award he received in Atlanta, GA last August, Charles previously earned the Nashville Industry Music Awards “Male Country Artist of the Year” and “Song of the Year” for Never Had a Bad Day.

Unstoppable Joy was founded by Tonya Agostino, a breast cancer survivor. The national nonprofit organization operates in Salisbury, Maryland.

“My journey, like many others, came as a shock, with no history, good health, etc., and then the unthinkable happened,” Agostino says on the Unstoppable Joy website. “I was instantly put on the whirlwind of doctor appointments, treatment, and having to make many decisions I knew nothing about. My whole life had changed with these three words – YOU HAVE CANCER!

“In the midst of my journey, I started researching as I felt there had to be a better way to heal or at least help heal yourself,” she added. “I am a big believer that the body if given the right path, can heal itself. I am not saying that western medicine is not the way; I feel you need both. As bad as it was, I have chemo to thank for killing my cancer. However, I also have my faith in God and my belief to help myself heal. This is why I started Unstoppable Joy Co., to hopefully help others as they start their journey and let them know they are not alone.”
