Family members of Ben Layton and business supporters broke ground today on the $80,000 expansion project at Ben’s Red Swings playground in the Salisbury City Park.  The project includes the installation of a public restroom near the playground site that was built more than ten years ago in honor of Ben Layton, who in 2002 lost his battle with leukemia at the age of four.

Many local businesses are donating services and materials to the expansion project including the following: (Total Donation value: $41,650.00)

  • AWB Engineers
  • Shore Distributors
  • Salisbury Door & Hardware
  • Cain Masonry
  • Peninsula Roofing
  • Tapman’s Refrigeration
  • Beauchamp Brothers Construction
  • Salisbury Brick
  • Delmarva Veteran Builders

Organizers are also looking to raise $30,000 to add resilient surfaces to parts of the playground.

Tiles and pickets are available for purchase for installation at Ben’s Red Swings.  If you are interested in making a tile to be mounted on the exterior of the new playground restrooms or having a personalized picket along the fence, visit CFES.org.
