Commissioners throughout the Eastern Shore are encouraging everyone to make a difference by signing up to be a mentor. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore is celebrating the volunteers who are serving as mentors (“Bigs”) to community youth (“Littles”). All month long, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore is celebrating our mentors.

January 17, 2020 is International Mentoring Day, a day of international celebration of mentorship and a the powerful stories of mentor relationships.
January 20, 2020 BBBSES celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, sharing in the inspirational words of Dr. MLK, Jr. and elevating the spirit of service through volunteerism.

January 30, 2020 is #ThankYourMentor Day. On that day, many Americans will reach out to thank or honor those individuals who encouraged them, guided them, and had a lasting impact on their lives. Thank Your Mentor Day™ promotes “Four Ways to Honor Your Mentor: 1) contact your mentor directly to express your appreciation; 2) “pass it on” by becoming a mentor to a young person in your community; 3) make a financial contribution to a local mentoring program; and, 4) write a tribute to your mentor for posting on the campaign’s Web site.

This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore is offering a new, BIG resolution: resolve to become a Big Brother or Big Sister! Volunteering by itself carries numerous positive health advantages, and being a Big Brother or Big Sister is an enjoyable and fulfilling volunteer experience that truly makes a difference in the lives of youth in your community.

Across our service area, there are many children who have completed the enrollment process and are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister. In order to help these youth reach their full potential, more adult volunteers are needed to serve as mentors. BBBSES connects children with caring adult volunteer who can help ignite the power and promise of youth.

The program is available is Worcester, Somerset, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Wicomico, and Dorchester County. It doesn’t require a lot of your time, just 4 hours per month in the community or site base setting.
